There's nothing quite like a homemade cheeseburger. High quality beef, perfectly melted cheese, and
fresh toppings make this a winner every time.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80% lean / 20% fat is best)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
- 4 high-quality hamburger buns (brioche or sesame seed)
- Your favorite toppings: crisp lettuce, tomato slices, red onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard
Instructions
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions. Gently form them into patties, making them
slightly wider than the buns (they will shrink as they cook). Make a small indentation in the
center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing.
- Generously season both sides of each patty with salt and pepper.
- Preheat your grill or a cast-iron skillet to high heat.
- Place the patties on the heat. Cook without moving them for about 4-5 minutes to get a nice
crust. Flip the patties.
- Cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a
slice of cheese on each patty and cover the pan/grill to melt the cheese.
- Toast the buns lightly. Assemble your burgers with your favorite toppings and serve immediately.
